Portland Hybrid & EV Repair

We’ve been working on hybrids and EVs in Portland since 2010. Not as an add-on to regular auto repair—as our specialty. Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, and Kia.

If you’re reading this, you probably already know your car is a little different. The dealership wants to charge you like it’s made of gold. The shop down the street isn’t sure what half the warning lights mean. And you’re wondering if anyone actually understands how these systems work.

We do. It’s what we’ve done for 15 years.

Why People Switch to Us

Most of our customers find us after a bad experience somewhere else. “The dealer said I needed a new battery pack for $8,000.” We hear this a lot. Sometimes that’s true. Often it’s not. We’ll tell you what’s actually going on before we quote you anything.

“My regular mechanic said they don’t work on hybrids.” Fair enough—hybrids and EVs require specific training and equipment. We have both. Our technicians have decades of combined experience, and we’ve built our shop around these cars.

“I just want someone to shoot straight with me.” That’s the whole idea. We’ll show you what we find, explain your options, and let you decide. No pressure, no scare tactics.

What We Work On

Toyota, Lexus & Nissan — Hybrids and non-hybrids, cars and trucks. Prius (all generations), Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Tacoma, Leaf, and more. For Prius-specific repairs, visit our dedicated Portland Prius Repair page.

Ford & Chevrolet — Hybrids and EVs. Fusion Hybrid, Escape Hybrid, C-Max, Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, Volt, Bolt.

Hyundai & Kia — Ioniq, Sonata Hybrid, Niro, Kona Electric, EV6, and more.

Honda — Insight, Civic Hybrid, Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid, and more.

Tesla — We’re not yet ready to service Teslas to our standards, but we’re happy to advise and help point you in the right direction. For Tesla questions, email us at [email protected].

We don’t service Volkswagen, Fisker, Rivian, or Fiat vehicles.

How It Works

Text us. Seriously. You can call if you want, but most of our customers prefer texting. Send us what’s going on—warning lights, noises, whatever—and we’ll get back to you with next steps.

We test and inspect first. We don’t quote repairs based on what you think is wrong or what another shop told you. We test the systems, run the codes, and figure out what’s actually happening. Then we talk.

You decide. Once we know what’s going on, we’ll explain your options. Need the repair today? We’ll get it done. Want to wait? That’s fine too—we’ll tell you what’s safe to drive on and what’s not.

We’ve had customers drive from Astoria, from Seattle, from all over the Pacific Northwest because they couldn’t find anyone closer who actually understood their car.

Hybrid & EV Repair Questions

What hybrid and EV brands do you service?

We specialize in Toyota and Lexus hybrids but also service Honda, Nissan (including the Leaf EV), Ford, and Hyundai/Kia hybrid and electric vehicles. Our diagnostic equipment covers all major hybrid and EV systems. If you are unsure whether we work on your vehicle, text us at 503-969-3134.

How is hybrid repair different from regular car repair?

Hybrid vehicles combine a gas engine with an electric motor and high-voltage battery system. Diagnosis requires specialized scan tools like Toyota Techstream that can read hybrid-specific codes and battery cell data. We invest in factory-level diagnostic tools rather than using generic code readers, which means we find the actual problem instead of guessing.

Do I need to go to the dealer for hybrid service?

No. Independent shops like Atomic Auto can perform all maintenance and repairs on hybrid vehicles. We use the same factory diagnostic tools and follow manufacturer service procedures. Many of our customers switch from dealerships because they get the same quality work with more transparent communication and lower overhead costs.

Is it safe to work on hybrid vehicles?

Yes, when technicians are properly trained. Our team is certified for high-voltage hybrid and EV systems. We follow strict safety protocols for isolating and working on high-voltage components. This specialized training is one of the key differences between a general repair shop and a hybrid specialist.
