How we price a repair.

We test before we quote.

Not from what another shop said or what the internet thinks. We test the systems, read the codes and find what is actually wrong. Then we talk.

How we diagnose

We charge for the diagnosis.

It is what separates the work your car needs from work someone was paid to sell. Nobody here earns more or less from what you approve.

Photos, then your yes.

You get what we found, with photos, by text. Nothing gets fixed until you approve it, and you can approve and pay online.

Sometimes the answer is no.

If a car isn't worth the repair, we will say so. We would rather lose a sale than sell you a temporary fix that strands you on I-84.

What hybrid and EV brands do you service?

Toyota and Lexus hybrids are our main focus. We also service the Honda, Ford, Chevrolet, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia hybrid and electric models listed on this page. We do not currently service Tesla, Volkswagen, Fisker, Rivian or Fiat. Text 503-969-3134 with your year, make and model to confirm we can help.

How is hybrid repair different from regular car repair?

Hybrid vehicles combine a gas engine with an electric motor and high-voltage battery system. Diagnosis requires specialized scan tools like Toyota Techstream that can read hybrid-specific codes and battery cell data. We invest in factory-level diagnostic tools rather than generic code readers, which means we find the actual problem instead of guessing.

Do I need to go to the dealer for hybrid service?

You can bring the hybrid models we service to Atomic Auto for diagnosis, maintenance and repairs. We inspect the car, explain what we find and ask for your approval before repair work begins. If the work needs a dealer, we will tell you.

Will using an independent shop void my factory warranty?

No. Federal law protects your right to have routine maintenance performed elsewhere, as long as the work is done properly and you keep records. On a brand-new vehicle with a large powertrain warranty, our practical advice is to have covered-period service done at the dealer anyway, because it removes an argument if you ever need a major claim paid.

Do I have to pay for another diagnostic if another shop already diagnosed my car?

We charge for diagnostic time, because the inspection is what separates the work your car actually needs from work someone was incentivized to sell. Nobody here makes more or less money based on what work you end up having done, so the diagnosis is not a sales tool.

Do you replace hybrid batteries?

Yes, when the diagnosis shows the battery is actually the problem. We install brand new OEM hybrid batteries only. We don't install reconditioned or aftermarket packs, and we don't repair individual modules.

Where can I get hybrid or EV repair in Portland?

Atomic Auto is at 610 NE 102nd Ave, Portland, OR 97220, at 102nd and Glisan near the Gateway Transit Center. We are open Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, with after-hours drop-off and pickup available. Text 503-969-3134 with your vehicle details, or book online to choose a day and time.

Can you help if my EV will not charge or turn on?

We diagnose charging and no-start concerns on the EV models we service, including the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt. Text us the year and model, a photo of any warning message, and what happened when you tried to charge or start the car. We will confirm whether we can take the vehicle and explain the next step before you arrange a visit.

How much does hybrid vehicle repair cost?

The estimate depends on your vehicle and what our diagnosis finds. We charge for diagnostic time, then explain the findings and repair options before you approve the work. Send us your year, model, symptoms and any previous diagnosis so we can explain how to get started.
